This article provides an overview of Jean-Luc Marion's and Jacques Derrida's interpretations of the expression es gibt in the work of Martin Heidegger. First, Heidegger's understanding of es gibt is examined, followed by an overview of Marion's exegesis. Next, Derrida's reflection on this theme is introduced, emphasizing the key aspects of his interpretation. Finally, the third section draws conclusions from both readings, showing that the differences between Marion and Derrida regarding es gibt in Heidegger lead to discrepancies concerning the concept of the gift and its relationship (or lack thereof) with phenomenological donation (Gegebenheit). However, it is argued that this disagreement is not essential when considering the significance both authors attribute to a certain "non-predicative" dimension of experience.
