The present paper intends to reconsider Slavoj Zizek's reading of Hegel's work, and, in particular, of his concept of Subject. In a Lacanian key, he focuses on Hegel's distinction, in Phenomenology of Mind, between Substance and Subject, trying to show that the distinguishing feature of the latter is its impossible coincidence with itself, its constitutive disjunction. As this paper demonstrates, this interpretation leads Zizek to inflict violence upon Hegel's thinking, projecting upon it categories that were completely alien to the conceivable universe of his discourse. Actually, these categories would become available only after the break of some of the fundamental assumptions on which Hegel's thinking rested. At any rate, ¿izek's anachronism is revealing of a broader epistemological problem, which, therefore, currently encompasses the entire philosophical reflection on politics.
