This study aims to expand the knowledge of the composition of pigments present on the surfaces of artifacts and ecofacts, as well as the potential locally available raw materials, adding to what is already known about pigment recipes in Patagonian rock art. Using a micro Raman spectrometer, nine archaeological artifacts and ecofacts recovered from sites in the forests of Río Negro and the steppes of Chubut were analyzed. Additionally, five samples of potential raw materials, found in the latter area, were processed. The spectra obtained were analyzed using the LabSpec program and the BioRad database. In line with previous studies, hematite and other iron oxides were identified as the main contributors to the coloration of the artifacts. Furthermore, rock fragments were found to be potentially usable raw materials. Their compositions match those of the rock paintings, with a special case presented by a bright green rock sample, as neither malachite nor chrysocolla have been previously recognized as part of pigment mixtures in either the forest or the steppe. This suggests the possibility that new pigment recipes, yet to be detected, may exist.
