In Buenos Aires, between 1910 and 1936, images circulated and operated culturally, not only individually but by juxtaposition and accumulation. The cityscape representations showed the constant changes in the urban infrastructure and configured an “old and new” dialectic that was characterized by its modern vocabulary. In this article we will analyze how a collection of urban landscape representations (photographs, engravings, paintings) made since the late eighteenth century, operated in the making of a “Great Village” imaginary related to the city´s past; and how these worked by opposition to an imaginary related to the modern and thriving present and future of Buenos Aires.
