This paper attempts to trace the development of value determinations to show how, in words of Laclau and Mouffe, negativity acquires a concrete form. That is, it is proposed to address the commodity as unit cell of social production and consumption. Once exposed that what is hidden in this cell is the actual production of the equivalence between different useful objects, we will investigate if, then, this logic can be thought as one that fits the equivalence one, as it is presented in Hegemony and Socialist Strategy. To this end, we will discuss as an exponent of social logic described by Laclau and Mouffe, the contradictory, and therefore possible, relationship between social instances that political representation involves.
