Cuatro economistas marxistas desenvolvieron en la posguerra importantes estudios de la relación centro-periferia. Mientras que Paul Baran y Paul Sweezy fueron precursores de ese abordaje, Samir Amin y Ernest Mandel aportaron desarrollos más elaborados del mismo tema.
