Castaño Nuevo Mining District is located on the eastern side of the Frontal Cordillera of San Juan Province, Argentina. It is related to Choiyoi Group magmatism and it comprises a set of quartz/adularia veins. Dios Protege Vein is the most important structure from Castaño Nuevo Mining District and is placed on a sinistral strike-slip fault with a minor normal dip-slip component. The main orientation is NNE, W-dipping, and it is characterized by trend changes along the strike, creating open spaces related to strike inflections and interception with other structures. Along these open spaces, vein width is increased and there were recognized at least 6 infill events. These events could be classified between crackle and cockade breccia types. Cockade breccias result from low rates of cement growth compared to high rates of fracturing, while high rates of fluid rise are more likely to develop crackle breccias, these ratios fluctuated along time, and define mineral alternation and different types of fluid inclusion found on each mineral phase, that could be related to boiling process and precious metal deposition. By integrating these vein features, it was recognized that the last event (E6) from Dios Protege Vein has the greatest Au/Ag values, it represents a crackle breccia type, with intense boiling features and could allow locating a boiling horizon at depth and Bonanza-type mineralization associated, below the studied levels.
