This paper presents new evidence relative to the discussion about human activities variability in the Beagle Channel region (Tierra del Fuego). Results of analysis of materials from site Lanashuaia XXI are presented; the site is located on the top of a hill at about 40 m.a.s.l., 550 m off the shore, and with no direct view to the Beagle Channel, a feature which distinguishes it from most of the region’s sites. The site is a dome-shaped shellmidden of 11m2 , with a 20 cm. stratigraphy generated by an ephemeral occupation, and has been dated 825 BP on the site’s base. The analysis of artifacts and archaeofauna shows the total absence of bone tools, and the presence of 54 lithic artifacts (of which 90.74% are flakes) and 142 bone elements (of which more than 98.6% are birds). Results suggest that the assemblage may reflect a locus of special activities directed to avifaunal consumption and to the production and use of lithic artifacts, showing similarities with some synchronic assemblages but differences with the general regional sequence regarding subsistence and technology.
