In October 1982, the first issue of Tiempo Latinoamericano, “an independent monthly magazine specialized in religious and social topics” appeared in Córdoba. Founded by former seminarian Luis Miguel “Vitín” Baronetto, journalist Juan Carlos Molina and former priest Máximo Layús, it burst onto the provincial scene with the declared purpose of establishing itself as an instrument at the service of “justice, peace, freedom and progress of men”. In this article we reconstruct and analyze the origins of the publication, starting from conceiving it in a triple inscription: as a political actor, as an agent of political socialization and as a cultural enterprise. We pay attention to the trajectories of the founding group, the identity profile of the magazine and its discursivity. In particular, we are interested in accessing their representations and positions regarding politics, their insertion within heterogeneous Catholicism and their relationship with ecclesiastical hierarchies. To do this, we focus our attention on the first ten issues of Tiempo Latinoamericano, published between October 1982 and December 1983.
