This paper aims to show that Lacan’s re"ections on the thing, which have their starting point in the écrit about the Freudian thing and are deepened in the seminar on the ethics of psychoanalysis, are ordered by a fundamental scheme. In order to do so, through a close reading, the arguments that Lacan used to give light to the thing in “The Freudian thing or the meaning of the return to Freud in psychoanalysis” (1956) and The Seminar 7. The Ethics of Psychoanalysis (1959-60) will be rebuilt. So it will be palpable that despite differences between one point and another, certain structural features remain constant. In the conclusion, it will discuss the main feature of the scheme of the thing, namely, the unevenness inherent to the subjective structuring that is inseparable from the Thing.
