This paper seeks to contribute to the analysis of the relationship between parity democracy as a regulatory ideal and the expansion of women's rights. For this, we study the substantive representation of gender based on the analysis of the speeches of the Argentine national female legislators who participated in the parliamentary treatment of the Legalization of the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (IVE) project in 2018 and 2020. We analyze the recurring ideas and gender stereotypes regarding the role of women in society, considering that the discussion about defining something implies diverse ideological and political points of view. In aim to advance in an agenda that responds to feminists demands, we conclude proposing that not only the presence of women in power spaces is required, but also a sufficient number of political women who seek the integration of feminist interests in public institutions.
