The diameter of the dominant follicle (DFD), the rate of growth of the dominant follicle (CFD), of ovulation (TO), of multiple ovulation (TOM), of pregnancy (P/IATF) and concentration of progesterone (P4) 7 days post TAI were compared in suckled beef cows treated with a 5 day Cosynch protocol (Cosynch-5d) with (n = 24) or without (n= 25) 400 IU of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) at intravaginal P4 device (DIVP) removal. The percentage of anestrus was 41,7% in the eCG group and 32,0% in the Control group. The DFD was larger in cows of the eCG group (P < 0,0001). The rate of CFD was affected by the group (eCG= 1,7 ± 0,09 and Control = 1,2 ± 0,06 mm/day; P < 0,01). The TO tended (P = 0,10) to be greater in the eCG group (75%) than in the Control group (60%). The TOM was 2,0 % and no difference between groups (P > 0,10). Concentration of P4 at Day 7 was higher (P= 0,05) in the eCG group (7,12 ± 0,9 ng/ml) than in the Control group (4,38 ± 1,0 ng/ml). P/IATF on Day 39 tended (P= 0,07) to be greater in the eCG group (37%) than in the Control group (14%) and on Day 78 was greater (P= 0,03) in the eCG group (37%) than in the Control group (9%). The eCG treatment associated with a Cosynch-5d protocol improved fertility in suckled beef cows.
