This paper addresses the ways in which Nancy Chodorow and Jessica Benjamin offer conceptual notions to the gender identity constitution. From a qualitative analysis ofcontent an exegesis ofprimary sources is elaborated. First, we highlight the bonds ofthe theoretical affiliation Jessica Benjamin's thought keeps with the feminist philosopher Simone de Beauvoir so as to draw some theoretical considerations to be incorporated within the psychoanalytic field and from an intersubjective perspective based on the mutual recognition. Then, from a bibliographical analysis that weighs up not only the explanatory level ofthe researched theoretical concepts but their limits, Allison Weir's critics are included as she detects semantic shifts regarding the separation and connection categories. Shifts that come from Nancy Chodorow's influence and later captured by Benjamin under the recognition prism.
