The aim of this article is to examine the evolution of income inequality in Colombia between 2010 and 2021, contrasting its periods of decline and ascent. The study analyzes the developments in the labor market, labor income, and non-labor income, along with income policies implemented during the pandemic crisis and the recovery phase. The Gini index decomposition methodology by income sources enables the identification of factors associated with changes in family income distribution. The dynamics are explained, on the one hand, by the role of the labor market (labor income), and on the other hand, by the impact of non-labor income sources, especially linked to the country’s social protection. The article draws on microdata from the Integrated Household Survey conducted by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).
