This paper aims to analyze the different processes that led to the emergence of the parish in León, focusing on the dynamics that allowed rural communities of the Early Middle Ages, loosely connected to local religious centers, to transform into territorially defined and firmly organized parishes centered around a temple. Within this framework, the relationship between churches, communities, and territory in the Early Middle Ages is examined, as well as the hierarchization of some churches and their possible role as the seedbed for future parishes, and the delimitation of parish territories in the context of the genesis of a new diocesan territoriality.
