This work addresses attempts to practice popular education within young‐adult secondary schools. Although collectives that encourage these schools subscribe to different ideological trends, they all adhere, in pedagogical terms, to popular education, raising the construction of a popular‐public education. Popular education has been called to transform school in a democratic‐critical way, qualifying the divorce between non‐ formal area of popular education and school, the prevailing tendency in the 1960s and 1970s. We will explore the experience of a young‐adult secondary school in the northern outskirts of Buenos Aires city. We take into account contributions of those authors who have promoted a rapprochement between the two fields. The main lines we will consider are: political skill of educational practice, democratization of school, types of knowledge involved at school, pedagogical links, group relationships building, appropriation of teaching own practice knowledge.
