This article is aimed at analyzing the relation between academy and militancy from the perspective of researchers that carry out their inquiries along with popular sectors and that seek to recreate the ways in which knowledge is produced in collective terms. To obtain the empirical basis, a qualitative methodology was used. It combined a survey of papers in scientific journals, to create a bibliographic matrix, with in depth interviews to authors that were part of such matrix and that provided additional documents that were part of the empirical corpus. We identify two main findings: on the one hand, the importance of pluralizing the notion of militancy in its linkages with committed research as well as expanding the academic subjects involved in militancy; and, on the other hand, the need for taking notice of the recounted discomforts and the “incantations” that give account of creative ways to deal with discomforts.
