Fossil energy has been a central component, if not the most important, for the formation and reproduction of the capitalist system as we know it today. It constituted a revolutionary rupture in the way in which humans have understood society, nature and their interrelation, consolidating a hegemonic structure under the logic of commodification and dispossession. However, the acceleration of climate change and its impacts in recent years have generated a growing consensus on the need to abandon cornucopian calculations of accumulation based on the fossil vector. In this article we address the capitalist strategies that seek an expanded reproduction at a global level, through two phenomena: on the one hand, accumulation by conservation, and on the other, what we have called accumulation by defossilization, both pillars of a new corporate eco-techno consensus on Climate Change, under which expert knowledge, public policies and new market strategies are organized.
