In Argentina, Psychology Undergraduate Programs were created at National Universities since 1950’s decade. From that age on, Psychology has been considered as a science and a profession. Historiographic literature has mainly devoted itself to make a revision of the Argentinian psychology professionalization process, and yet not many historiographic work has been conducted to analyze psychology development as a science. The aim of this paper is to describe the scientific production registered in the Psychology Program of San Luis, a small city in the centre of Argentina, in the period held between 1958 and 1982, within the framework of the programs created at Argentinian national universities. Quantitative and qualitative methodologies were combined to analyze documental sources and key informant testimonies, which produced information, entered into built data bases. Collected information made it possible for us to underline university policies that combined with outstanding figures, oriented psychological research to the direction it was described. Scientific production was clasified into subject and theorical orientation. Hence, the gestation and evolution of a community of psychologists, that gradualy differenciated into psychoanalists and behaviorists, came to light. The second group’s production contrasted with research produced at other national universities where psychoanalysis was the mainstream.
