This article investigates the Thomas Aquinas` intellectu-al debt to Augustine of Hippo regarding the harmonious relationship between Philosophy and Sacred Doctrine. Specifically, this research deals with the scope of the notion of Philosophy in Sacred Theology according to the mind of Aquinas and it is from his assumption of different Augustinian texts. In order to do this, we have considered the well-known, but not always properly contemplated, thomistic thesis that affirms “the gift of faith does not remove but perfects natural rea-son” as it appears in the Boethius` commentary of De Trinitate (1 q. 2 a.3). The reason resides in the following details: 1. It is an epistemic text par excellence; 2. Thomas declares to follow the investigation on the Trinity according to the path chosen by Boethius, which in his opinion indicates that must be fundamentally Aristotelian.
