Resumen

This dataset contains two tables used for generalized linear model (GLM) analyses exploring environmental drivers of mosquito populations in urban drainage channels in Salta, Argentina. One table includes data for modeling the abundance of Culex quinquefasciatus, the most abundant species recorded, while the other was used to analyze Culicidae species richness, measured using the Hill-Shannon diversity index. Both tables contain information on larval habitat characteristics and surrounding landscape features. Recorded variables include water temperature, pH, depth, season, water flow (stagnant or running), insolation (sun or shade), and the presence of vegetation. In addition, remote sensing-derived variables were included: Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), and Land Surface Temperature (LST). These were obtained from Google Earth Engine (EVI and NDWI) and MODIS (LST), summarized using 400-meter buffers around each sampling site.

Métodos

Field sampling was conducted from September 2021 to August 2023, with approximately one visit per site each season. Water samples were collected using 300 ml dippers (10 dips per site), and the number of immature mosquitoes (larvae and/or pupae) was recorded. Habitat features were measured in situ at each sampling event, using portable instruments and visual assessment. Species richness was estimated using Hill numbers calculated with PAST software, which provide an effective number of species by accounting for differences in species abundance.
