This article addresses the processes of (re)urbanization of slums that are currently promoted in different jurisdictions of the country. For this, a brief historical account is carried out regarding the public policies developed since the advent of Democracy. In this way, the different models and strategies that are carried out when urbanizing neighborhoods come into discussion, taking into account their strengths and disadvantages. In this framework, the tensions that organize the implementation of public initiatives aimed at responding to the problem of informal neighborhoods are identified: (i) actions restricted to sanitation of the domain vs. integral actions, (ii) interventions that are transversal vs. interventions that are processual and dynamic, (iii) market logic institutions vs. phenomena that respond to the logic of necessity, (iv) urbanization processes vs. valorization process, and (v) integration vs. recognition of rights.
