The question I would like to pose in this essay refers to the kind of concepts and modulations of critique of ideology needed to account for the transformations that have taken place in Neoliberalism with the re-launching of capitalism after the decline of the multicultural global utopia and the crisis of the fantasy of capitalism without friction. In the first section I consider, on the one hand, the damage on the conditions for autonomy generated by neoliberalism’s entrepreneurialism and politics, but also by its anti-intelectualism. On the other hand I try to understand some mutations, perceptible in the local public discourse and sensibility, from cynicism to cruelty; from the cynic attitude towards the universals typical of Argentinean neoliberalism during the nineties to a new dominant ideology that openly asks for an unlimited sacrifice which goes beyond selfishness and self preservation. Taking account of the increasing self-referentiality of neoliberal discourse, in the second section I consider the actuality of ideological critique understood as determined negation or critique of false consciousness, on the basis of Th. Adorno’s reflections on the mutations of ideology under National Socialism. Finally, taking into consideration the critique of capitalism developed by Marx in The Capital, I argue in favour of a dissonant coexistence of different models of critique.
