Mi confesión, by Miguel de Unamuno, was written in 1904 and remained unpublished until 2015. A large part of this unfinished essay, whose title claims for itself the confessional character, echoes in Tratado del amor de Dios and in Chapter III of Del sentimiento trágico de la vida. In this way, it can be affirmed that the rearticulation of fragments of Mi confesión in fundamental texts by Unamuno not only ratifies a significant nuance of his essayism, but also discusses some current hypotheses of the postwar intelligentsia, which —put to review the presence of confession in the Hispanic tradition— relativized the possibility of gender in the Basque writer. Thus, certain postulates of María Zambrano and Rosa Chacel in this regard, can be contrasted with the evidence of the confessional character that marked the Unamuno’s legacy as the bearer of a new way of “knowing”.
