Aproximaciones a una historia de los estudios filológicos y lingüísticos en Rosario (Universidad Nacional del Litoral, 1952-1967)

Abstract

Este artículo aborda desde la perspectiva de la historiografía lingüística los inicios de los estudios lingüísticos y filológicos en la ciudad de Rosario y su institucionalización. A través de la exhumación y el análisis de materiales documentales dispersos en diversos soportes y repositorios, reconstruimos un período que resulta determinante para la configuración de este subcampo de conocimiento en una de las principales universidades nacionales de la Argentina. En 1952 se funda el Instituto de Filología de la Universidad Nacional del Litoral y comienza a dictarse la materia Lingüística en la carrera de Letras. La primera etapa de gestión del Instituto no avanza o al menos no lo hace su director en sus propias producciones en los objetivos inicialmente declarados para el organismo de dedicarse al estudio de las variedades locales del español, pero sí conforma un espacio que sienta las bases y sostiene por más de una década la formación de recursos humanos en el área. Entre 1966 y 1967 una serie de factores confluye para dar lugar a una mayor especialización y diversificación del subcampo, a partir del establecimiento de espacios dedicados a la dialectología.This article approaches the beginnings of Philological and Linguistic Studies in the city of Rosario and its institutionalization from the perspective of linguistic historiography. Through the exhumation and analysis of documents scattered in various media and repositories, we reconstruct a decisive period for this subfield’s configuration in one of the main national universities in Argentina. The Institute of Philology from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral was founded in 1952 and the subject Linguistics began to be taught in the Letters’ degree. The first direction of the Institute did not advance in the objectives initially declared for the center, that aimed to study the local varieties of Spanish. These initial goals were not pursued, but the Institute did lay the foundations for the further development of that area and sustained the training of human resources for more than a decade. 1966-1967 a series of factors converged to give rise to a greater specialization and diversification of the subfield, starting with the establishment of spaces dedicated to dialectology.
