This article aims to describe and analyze how Muslim women experience (embodiment) and externalize (performance) their religiosity or religious identity. In order to achieve this purpose, in first place, we are going to explain the concept of Islamic din; paying especial attention to the notions of submission and uniqueness. In second place, we will expose the most important rules that shape gender relations in Islam. Third and finally, we want to think -taking the uses and meanings of hijab as a starting point- over muslim women agency and the relationship they establish between islamic principles of submission and modesty during their self-constitution and the definition of their presence in the world (being in the world). Our main analysis source will be the interviews we have realized to different women during our fieldwork in a Shiite community in Buenos.
