La cultura entre dos orillas: el lugar de España en la diplomacia cultural argentina durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945)

Abstract

Entre 1939 y 1945, Argentina y España estrecharon sus vínculos bilateralestanto a nivel económico como político y cultural, y coincidieron durante untiempo en la defensa de una posición de neutralidad frente a la SegundaGuerra Mundial. Este trabajo se propone realizar una primera aproximacióna la configuración de las políticas culturales que el Estado argentinoimplementó con destino a España en un contexto histórico complejo signadopor el desarrollo de la contienda bélica mundial y por la especialatención que la política exterior del franquismo destinó hacia el territoriohispanoamericano en dicho lapso. En este sentido, interesa examinar cuálesfueron los principales proyectos y aspiraciones que las instituciones y lossujetos pertenecientes al aparato diplomático y encargados de la construcciónde una imagen de la cultura argentina en el exterior proyectaronhacia la península en este marco. Para realizar este estudio se utilizaráncomo fuentes principales la documentación diplomática resguardada en elArchivo Histórico de la Cancillería Argentina; los documentos publicadospor la Comisión Nacional de Cooperación Intelectual; y las memorias yproducciones escritas de algunos de los principales diplomáticos involucrados en este proceso.This paper aims to study the cultural exchange policies that occurred between Spain and Argentina in between 1939 and 1945. During this period, both countries strengthened their economically, politically and culturally relations, and coincided for a time in a neutrality position about the World War II. This work is a first approach to the configuration of the cultural policies that Argentine implemented toward Spain in this historical context marked by the development of the world war and by the special attention that the foreign policy of the Franco’s regime dedicated to the SpanishAmerican territory. In this sense, it is interesting to examine what were the main projects and aspirations that the institutions and subjects belonging to the diplomatic apparatus and in charge of the construction of an image of Argentine culture abroad projected towards the peninsula in this period. In this study we analyze the diplomatic documentation of the Historical Archive of the Argentine Foreign Ministry; the documents published by the National Commission for Intellectual Cooperation; and the memories and written productions of some of the main diplomats involved in this process.
