This article analyzes one of Juan Carlos Tedesco's recurring themes in the nineties and the first decade of the two thousand: education in/for solidarity. To this end, the qualitative approach and interpretive analysis of some of its publications and unpublished texts prepared between 1992 and 2009 were adopted as a methodological strategy. These materials were investigated from the prism of a historical social science: that is, as the product not only of general historical, political and social conditions, but also of conflicts and intellectual agreements between the agents and institutions that fight to establish, through their positions, a legitimate point of view on the State, education and society in the educational field. Among other findings, it is shown that Tedesco considered that “living together” was no longer a logical and necessary consequence in the “new capitalism”: proof of this, he said, was the growing social exclusion. In his opinion, the teaching of values such as solidarity should be part of pedagogical work and an educational policy aimed at “learning to live together” and building more just societies.
