This article analyzes the photographs taken on May 25, 1973, by Alicia Sanguinetti, a young PRT-ERP militant imprisoned in Devoto prison, during the event known as the Devotazo: the day Héctor J. Cámpora took office as president and the political prisoners were released. With a camera secretly delivered by her brother, Sanguinetti documented intimate and collective scenes inside the prison ward, capturing the anticipation, celebration, and symbolic appropriation of the carceral space by the militant youth. The images—developed a decade later—depict flags, murals, slogans, and bodies in a state of temporary freedom, constituting a valuable visual archive from within captivity. From the perspective of visual studies and cultural history, this article interprets the photographic record not only as documentary testimony but also as a political and aesthetic intervention in an exceptional historical moment. The analysis brings militant actions into dialogue with the ways in which confinement was represented and re-signified, contributing to the understanding of resistance and symbolic production during the 1970s in Argentina.
