Mental Health (MH) represents a public health challenge today in Latin America. Several organizations have highlighted the growing prevalence of mental disorders in the population. At the same time, the importance of developing public policies that take into account the cultural context of the individuals to whom they are addressed has been highlighted. In this context, Social Representations (SR) become relevant. MH SRs can be defined as a modality of knowledge that allows individuals to organize their reality, communicate, and act according to established parameters. Considering the importance of the study of this issue, the objective of this narrative review is to analyze research that explores social representations regarding Mental Health conducted in Latin America during the last 10 years. Reviewing these studies will allow us to suggest that, in general, MH has tended to be considered as axiologically positive, and associated to concepts such as “Well-being”, “Peace”, “Peace of mind”. At the same time, it will allow us to highlight research gaps and to propose future directions.
