In recent decades, the environmental problems became central in the social, political and economic fights. From being a technical topic to being a political problem, these problems allow us to ask about the causes of the environmental crisis and their effects on Latin American and Caribbean territories. In this context, the Environmental education (EE), which was developed since the 1960s, enters into dialogue with another field of knowledge, Political Ecology (PE), stimulating convergences between both. In this paper, we review the background that conceives the causes of environmental crisis as civic crisis, we show the modern ontology and how these expresses in the territories belong the developmentalist discourses. This conducts us to be careful about the necessity of consolidating a critical perspective toward these discourses. In second place, we expose the different manners that the EE was formed from a Latin American perspective at the same time it was linked with socioenvironmental movements and with the Political Ecology, in consolidation too. We conclude in the necessity of linking the EE with PE to reaffirm a critical perspective, alerts to territorial diversity, to design alternatives futures to developmentalism.
