Currently, lithium is considered a strategic resource as it is a key input in the production of lithium-ion batteries for the electric vehicle industry and energy storage from renewable sources. Argentina, with significant lithium reserves in salt flats, is among the world’s leading producers of the resource as a raw material. Although the country has a long history in research on lithium, it has not been possible to industrialize the resource or advance in the local manufacture of batteries, even the initiatives undertaken in this way have failed. Based on a qualitative analysis, this article aims to address the lithium industrialization policies in Argentina with the aim of accounting for the strengths and challenges to advance in the local linkage of the value chain based on the development of capacities nationals.
