The objective of this study is to determine if there is an association between commute time to Medical School and the academic performance of Medical students. Observational, analytical, cross-sectional study that included Medical students studying Toxicology in the rst semester of 2019 at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Data collection was carried out through a self-administered anonymous written survey. There were no differences in the mean grade point average (GPA) of the - nal exams of the Biomedical stage among students with a commute time over 60 minutes, as compared to those with less commute time (6.51±1.14 points vs 6.73±1.08 points; p=0.3043). On performing an exploratory analysis of the distance in kilometers between each students’ neighborhood and the Schoolof Medicine, the GPA decreased non-signi cantly 0.021 points for each kilometer increase in the distance between students’ neighborhood and the School of Medicine (β=–0.02; 95%CI: –0.043 to 0.001; p=0.0670). By incorporating the age variable in a multiple linear regression model, this association gained statistical signi cance (β=–0.024; 95%CI: –0.046 to –0.002; p=0.0341). This study could not con rm a relationship. However, it suggests that there would be a tendency for longer commute times and larger distances to be associated with lower GPAs.
