The urban forestation, in cities of arid zones, constitutes one of the more accessible bioclimatic resources to incorporate in the public and private open spaces to provide physical comfort to the people and as a contribution to the regional energetic savings. The permeability to the global solar radiation is calculated using two methods: The solarmetrical and the photometrical, which demonstrated to be suitable in order to select the tree species potentially more adequate. An urban planning tool, the Bioclimatic Arboreal Index (IBA) is obtained. This index unifies the response of the trees to the solar radiation with the requirements of bioclimatic conditioning along the whole year. The results can be incorporated in the Urban Public Forestation Code, to be applied in the design of consolidated or new urban frames.
