This paper analyzes, within the framework of glottopolitics, the use of languages in research papers (RP) in Argentinean journals of biological and health sciences, during 2017-2022, in relation to the geographical affiliation of authors. Out of 1,530 RP, it was observed that although Spanish is still most widely used, English is registered in a sustained and growing manner in more than 30 %, whereas Portuguese is rarely used. Also, while for authors from Asia and Eastern Europe, English seems to be a vehicular language, we discuss about the preference for English among Latin American authors and the sociolinguistic representations that exert their influence on such a preference.
