This work seeks to question, in light of the change in orientation in the linguistic policy of Spanish that was proposed in the document New Pan-Hispanic Linguistic Policy (NPLP) -presented publicly in 2004 under the signature of the Royal Spanish Academy and the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE)-, the institutional congresses that periodically bring together these corporations. Located in the theoretical approach of Glottopolitics, the analysis focuses on five meetings (1980-2002) that precede the official announcement of the NPLP. The starting point is the consideration of the ASALE congresses as discursive spaces that exhibit traces of the process that led to the renewal of the linguistic policy of the Hispanic area that Spain has implemented in recent decades. In this journey there is a transformation in the way these events operate as they become part of the institutional-academic device of said policy.
