Water is a crucial resource for all sectors of society and ecosystems. The interdependence beetween water and the stability of the earth system is evidenced by the alterations of the climate system, that is to say climate change and its effects on the hydrological cycle. Water resources can be seriously affected by climate change and other environmental changes resulting from human activities, which increases the associated risks. This represents a challenge for the management of the resource, which requires legal frameworks and intersectoral public policies that link up both dimensions. The aim is to describe the possible effects of climate change and analyze the legal framework and public policies on climate change and their connection with freshwater management in the provinces of Buenos Aires and Córdoba and at the national level, in Argentina. The study is qualitative, the documentary bibliographic method and legal hermeneutics were implementented. It is possible to affirm that changes in climate predicted for the study area may have negative effects on the availability and quality of freshwater sources. There are regulations and public policies of climate change at the national level that incorporate freshwater management. Although the issue is not addressed transversally in all sectors. Finally, at the provincial level have not yet issued specific regulations on climate change. In this case, it is an opportunity to integrate the water management approach into future provincial regulations and public policies, providing a framework to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and adapt to climate change.
