André Carneiro, one of the main representatives of the Brazilian science fiction arisen during the ‘50s, writes two novels between the early ‘70s and the mid ‘90s, Piscina Livre (1980) and Amorquia (1991), both linked by a main theme: sexuality. The present work builds a genealogy of the manifestations, functions and resolutions of this topic through history within the genre, while at the same time that analyzing how it is presented in both novels. Sexuality works inherently linked to gender and identity problems (in tune with the so called feminist science fiction of the late ‘60s), but it also functions as an instrument of social regulation.
