Resumen

The dataset is organized into four complementary files representing different hierarchical levels of sampling in Bromelia serra populations. The first file (“01 Field_survey_data_genets”) contains information at the genet level. Each record corresponds to a sampled genet and includes the identifiers of the sampling site and patch, the genet code, canopy openness values (%) derived from hemispherical photographs, and the geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) of each genet. The second file (“02 Field_survey_data_ramets”) contains information for individual ramets associated with each genet. This file includes the identifiers of the site, patch, genet, and ramet, the reproductive condition of the ramet (reproductive or vegetative), canopy openness (%), and several vegetative morphological traits such as plant height (cm), diameter (cm), leaf length (cm), and leaf width (cm). The third file (“03 Field_survey_data_reproductive ramets”) includes reproductive and fruit production variables measured for reproductive ramets. Each record contains the identifiers of the site, patch, genet, and ramet, together with canopy openness (%), infructescence diameter (cm), total number of fruits, number of fresh and rotten fruits, mean dry weight of fruits (g), standard deviation of fruit dry weight (g), mean dry weight of seeds (g), and the ratio between seed dry weight and pulp dry weight. The fourth file (“04 Field_survey_data_fruits”) contains measurements at the individual fruit level. Each record corresponds to a single fruit collected from a reproductive ramet and includes the identifiers of the site, patch, genet, ramet, and fruit, as well as fruit length and width measurements (cm), number of seeds, fresh and dry fruit weight (g), fresh seed weight (g), and the ratio between seed dry weight and pulp dry weight.

Métodos

In April 2011, three sampling sites were selected in elevated areas of a Schinopsis balansae forest, separated from each other by a matrix of herbaceous vegetation lacking woody cover and located at least 500 m apart. At each site, four patches were selected, and within each patch, four reproductive Bromelia serra plants and their associated vegetative ramets were randomly chosen (total: 48 reproductive plants and 48 vegetative ramets). For each plant, height, diameter, leaf length, and leaf width were measured. To characterize the light environment, a hemispherical canopy photograph was taken above each reproductive plant. The images were subsequently analyzed using the software Gap Light Analyzer. The infructescence of each reproductive plant was harvested, its perimeter was measured, and the number of fruits was counted. Five mature fruits were randomly selected from each infructescence, and their length and width were measured. The fruits were opened with a scalpel and the number of seeds was counted. Finally, the fruits were dried in an oven at 80 °C until constant weight and weighed using a precision balance (d = 0.0001 g).
