This article explores contemporary migration in an intermediate city of Argentina and investigates the particular modes of urban and social integration of the migrant population and the tensions that their presence raises. Using a qualitative methodology, firstly, it reconstructs the urban and population transformations of the city of Rafaela from a historical perspective, based on the different migratory dynamics. Secondly, it reflects on the possibilities and difficulties of the migration that took place in the last decades to live in the city, from its arrival to the present. The paper proposes to reflect on the borders that have been established, informally, within the research on migrations that separate those coming from abroad from those originating in the interior of the country and on the importance of understanding the dynamics in intermediate cities.
