Within the framework of critical theory, it seems a difficulty that a fundamental author like Habermas has resorted to aspects of meaning and of solidarity and motivational configuration present in religions, noting the lack of these aspects in modernity. The communicative disposition seems to require more than complying with a procedure. But those same meanings and motivations are often revealed as a stumbling block, as they could mean the denial of secular perspectives. This reveals a transversal problem: the problem of negation as a relevant aspect for a dialogue. This work aims to study how denial not only implies rejection but also admits a type of communicative demand that, in the first instance, the practice of recognition would be in a position to address. First of all, a reconstruction of the type of limit that denial implies will be elaborated, taking into account communitarian positions. Then, the way in which two philosophies as diverse as Habermas' universal pragmatics and Levinasian phenomenology collide with the mode of demand of another exposed in negation will be presented. Finally, starting from some aspects of the recognition in Honneth, it is intended to offer an integrative answer to these objections.
