This article examines the emergency of adscription categories in Lago Puelo, North Western Chubut, in Patagonia, Argentina, in the context of the claims of indigenous community to land tenure. In order to do so, we propose an analysis of the historical context of the emergence of these categories, in relation to the ways in which national, provincial and local state agencies have historically classified subordinated people. We analyze the scopes and limits of these current classifications. Our purpose is to observe how agencies and subjectivities are produced by some groups within the actions of the State and the limits imposed by the institutions.
