This paper will discuss how, since the 2000s, new modes of operation of Multinational Companies (MNCs) have been deployed based on the development of different types of global supply chains. With this, we will try to show to what extent, behind the interpretations of the approaches of Global Merchandise Chains (CGM) and Global Value Chains (GVC), the strategies of the MNEs express different modalities of carrying out the concentration process and centralization of capital on a global scale. In this framework, it will be hypothesized that, while the concept of CGM focuses on processes of centralization and appropriation of profits, reproducing (or expanding) the differences between the productive capacities of MNEs and small capitals, the most recent concept of GVC, as an expression of the unity between centralization and concentration on a global scale, accounts for a tendency towards selective diffusion and homogenization of productive capacities between parent companies and related firms. Both modalities of productive internationalization operate today, and distinguishing which predominates in each productive chain allows a better understanding of the trends at play at the sectoral level.
