In this article, we describe and comparatively analyse two glottopolitical phenomena, the socalled plain language initiatives and various expressions of gender-inclusive language, the precodified ones and their appropriation by the institutional discourse. We address their social and discursive dimensions in order to recognise variations and continuities in terms of the respective conditions of production and the enunciative strategies employed. For the analysis we use theoretical and methodological approaches of the sociology of language and the discourse analysis. This allows us to draw conclusions about the effects on the initial conditions and the unequal distribution of symbolic capital, as well as to understand the extent to which this inequality is denounced and confronted or reinforced and reproduced.
