This article presents the design, implementation and some outcomes of a research and outreach activity developed by researchers from Conicet and the National University of Río Negro and carried out with the support of the Ministry of Education and Human Rights of the province of Río Negro and UNICEF Argentina, in which children from fourth grade of nine primary schools were asked about their ideas and feelings about the economy and were invited to express them through graphic productions (drawings and collages accompanied by short texts). Asking children about what they know, feel and want in economic matters (both macroeconomics a household economies) is a vacant area in sciences as well as in the field of public policies, despite the fact that poverty impacts this age group in a differentiated way. The article justifies the social and academic need to investigate what children know about the economy, describes the methodological strategy designed and presents some preliminary outcomes of this experience, as well as its potential as a line of research.
