In this article we recount the journey of comparative literature in Argentina from the time of independence (1810) to the present. Four periods can be identified in this journey. Following the “pre-history” of the discipline, characterized by a comparatism considered naive, as well as periods of “pre-institutionalization” and “institutionalization” through the founding of the Argentine Association of Comparative Literature (AALC) in 1992 and the regular holding of national conferences, the fourth and final period, that is, the current period of “post-institutionalization” is characterized by the emergence of new and specialized areas and centers of research, academic publications, and the expansion of education in comparative literature at the postgraduate level.
