The construction of mental maps combines qualitative and quantitative aspects in a geographical research that investigates the way in which, from an individual and group point of view, geographic space is thought. The qualitative data is related to mental perception and the quantitative data to the process of generalization and subsequent modelling that leads to the representation of its spatial distribution. They are initially proposed from Humanist Geography and move to Quantitative Geography where it finds concrete bases to be used in the field of land use planning. The present work investigates the subject in secondary level students of two schools in the Province of Buenos Aires and applies two main methodologies: (1) the construction of the map of preferences and (2) spatial classification as a method of regionalization. The initial methodological proposals of Peter Gould and Constancio de Castro Aguirre are respectively followed, with technical adjustments such as the calculation of omega scores in the first case and the application of linkage analysis in the second.
