The aim of this paper is to present the first results on the chronology and analysis of lithic and bone materials recovered below two panels with rock art at Punta del Lago 1 (PL 1) (500 masl), an archaeological site located in a sandstone ravine on the northeast margin of Lake Viedma. This information is put into a regional context by using distributional data obtained at the pampas surrounding the site, the lake shore, and the Tobiano plateau. Punta del Lago 1 appears to have been a redundantly used space throughout the late Holocene, closely linked to other spaces located northwards. The offer of rock shelters and natural surfaces appropriate for rock art, in an environment relatively devoid of such facilities, highlights the importance of PL 1 in the prehistoric cultural geography and current archaeological landscape of the North shore of Lake Viedma.
