The text addresses the dual status between “works of art” and “things/objects” in the collections of El Fogón de los Arrieros (Resistencia, Chaco), which was assembled between 1940 and 1970. It also describes the exhibition modalities proposed during that period as well as in its later projection. The selection of the objects and pieces exhibited is articulated with a social and cultural action through which El Fogón managed to weave an avant-garde universe and assume a modern identity in a peripheral context. Within this framework, the formation of the collections is analyzed considering the links with the cabinets of curiosities, the role of photography in panoramic visualization/cataloging strategies and the expographical device focusing on public and private panels. We draw on contributions from the social history of art, aesthetics and studies on material culture, to particularly examine the relationships between people and works/things, in time and space.
