This article results from a research project focused on processes of othering related to the indigenous question in school contexts in Córdoba city (Argentina). Drawing on the conceptual configurations which resulted from such research, I attempt to present and reflect critically upon the relationship between indigenous otherness, meaning, time and space. To do this, I firstly draw on Jacques Derrida’s reflection on language and I examine its contribution to debates on the institution of cultural differences, and its implications regarding empirical research and interpretation. Secondly, I present the analysis of an empirical case in order to problematize the way in which indigenous otherness is constructed and ranks from two places: time and space.
